I had the awesome experience about a month ago of winning a contest. You know that feeling when you say, “I never win anything!”? Yeah, it was a lot like that. All I had to do was become that 400th follower on Twitter, but I was excited nonetheless.
Present Joys is a independent publishing house out of the UK. They publish strictly word and type prints, which I discovered while reading a good review by RobAroundBooks. The simple beauty of type is what makes each page amazing. The words aren’t lost in a sea of confusion.
Becoming the 400th follower of Present Joys on Twitter, I received Extra Ordinary Words by Supermundane. It is a small booklet of 55 short sentences. It’s a lot like flash fiction and the images that come to mind range from disturbing ( 01 “I’ve never done this kind of thing before,” he proclaimed honestly. But of course she couldn’t reply, not with the tape over her mouth) to hilarious ( 24 Twice the idea had come to him. Yesterday during an intense bowel evacuation and just a second ago whilst being hung over the edge of a very tall building by his ankles. “It must be something to do with the pressure of blood rushing to my head,” he thought, shortly before passing out).
It's short, sweet and brought lots of imaginative thoughts to my head. Some brought my anxiety up and others just a good laugh outright. I recommend checking out the site to see other amazing projects they're producing.
