New Book Bindings

I’ve missed the last couple of post about my book group so here's the update on a couple new techniques I've learned.

June’s meeting was the piano hinge book, which I really enjoyed and will be incorporating into my latest project. Each page is an actual board with the paper pasted on top of it. The hinge is actual cut up piano wire sown together with a basic kettle stitch method.

July I missed due to an unexpected visit from an old college roommate, but August was a success! No proper title, this book uses ribbon as part of the hinge to attach the front and back covers. While I really enjoyed making this book, it’s not a very sturdy binding. Very delicate and moves around a lot when you turn the pages.

The founder of the book group named Vera, also passed away in the past month. I never had a chance to meet her as she has been battling cancer and had to leave the group to take care of herself, but I heard wonderful stories about her. She left behind some great books through her years of collecting anything about books. The lady truly had a passion. Here was my find among the things for sale from her private collection.
