Signing my name on proof slips and importing new documents ready to impose in Apogee, I’m working and learning in the best way possible. I really enjoy printing out the proofs on the huge Sherpa printers. They have a huge lighted table for cutting and pasting. I wish I could take all those tools home with me!
So after almost a week of full work I am going to change my postings to once a week with prepress updates. There’s a lot of repetition in the day to day learning so I’ll recap my progress once a week. Next week I’ve got pictures to post of the presses and workstations.
I got my email for the shipped confirmation from Sappi on all the samples and booklets I ordered. SO EXCITED!
Another project is fully underway. I took my research to the downtown library yesterday and it was absolute heaven. I had forgotten how much I love the library. The smell is fantastic! All the books remind me of the way my grandmother’s house smelled, for she had thousands of books stacked throughout her house. Did you know you can check out up to 30 books at a time?! I started with five to reference for my book about the 12 virtues of rationality. Aristotle, ethics, deadly virtues and I even discovered a section that was all about art of the book, so I checked out two on the history of book design.
The Sacramento Central Library also has one of my favorite rooms, the Sacramento Room. Their informational pamphlet reads:
“For books are more than books, they are the life, they very heart and core of ages past, the reason why men lived and worked and died, the essence and quintessence of their lives.”
I could spend hours in there because it is a reference room only. Best sellers from 1490 all the way to the history of printing. It is quite amazing.
