Illuminated Manuscripts at the Sacramento Library

I am very proud to announce, Illuminated Manuscripts: History and Modern Day, the small exhibit that is now on display in the Central Library lobby in downtown Sacramento.

My volunteer hours in the Sacramento Room the past month have been heavily concentrated on the research of illuminated manuscripts and the examples in our collection that showcase how illumination evolved into modern printing. There is a short history of the illuminated manuscript and then examples shown in modern printing of elements pulled from the time period such as, why we have drop caps, elaborate borders, historiated capitals and what is a scriptorium?

The display will be showcased throughout the entire month of February and hopefully you will be intrigued to discover more of what the library has to offer.

Somewhere down in the fine print it states, "Curated by Sacramento Room Volunteer Jennifer Martinez."
