I started the week by going through a book I had mostly read, but wanted to make the information sink in more. The Detox Strategy by Brenda Watson. I've been really into the holistic approach to health the past six months and have found amazing health benefits in my new lifestyle. This is one of those books I want to use to continue on that pathway and it has given me some great ideas to approach. Although, my mother came over and saw the book sitting on the coffee table next to an empty bag of McDonald's. I swear it wasn't mine.
I followed some of the recommended advice such as skin brushing and steam baths. They do make me feel nice and relaxed in the evening, although I spend too much time washing my hair, which leaves little hot water to fill the bath tub. I didn't feel much sweating going on, which is the point, but the bath was nice. Not sure if I'll stick with all the routine.
Next, I started bringing Buddha by Deepak Chopra to work to read at lunch time and while I am enjoying the book and do wish to continue to read it, I have been distracted by other books. Not a top priority as you can see. I hope to know more about it next week. Chopra is an author I have heard mentioned quite often as a good source for spiritual guidance. Plus, reading while catching up on the first five seasons of Entourage is a poor move on my part. That show is damn addicting.
One day I just settled for catching up on the latest Real Simple magazine, which I always truly enjoy. I may not even read many of the articles or I'll day dream about really making that recipe I ripped out, but the graphic layout is so pleasing I feel better after flipping through all those crisp pages.
While, shopping at Target I also stumbled across a very pretty journal with Japanese binding.
I have s HUGE weakness of buying journals. All different flavors and sizes, I feel the need to write down whatever thoughts poor into my head or scribble the image that just flashed through my mind. This one reminded me of the books I made during the two semesters of Art of the Book I took while in college. My absolutely favorite and most inspirational class, which I will write much more on later.
After missing one day of book time I took it as an excuse to hit up the local book store in search for potential upcoming candidates to tackle for my project. After 45 minutes, which I swear is a new recorded for the fastest time I've gotten out of a book store, I had three new books and only spent $30. Another miracle trust me. The way a book store smells is amazing to my senses. They also have a funny way of organizing their displays:
Among the bargain section I found a detox book to go along with the reoccurring theme I'm on, Cesar's Way by Cesar Milan and The Outlaw Demon Wails by Kim Harrison. I am another HUGE sucker for anything related to the supernatural genre.
Out of those three, I read the detox book fairly quickly, learning not much new about the steps I need to take, although I might try a weekend detox as a baby step into the serious approach. Harrison, I usually read in bed as a way to relax and settle down for sleep. Harrison is just fine with her plot lines, but my absolutely favorite author of the genre is Laurel K. Hamilton. Amazing writing, which is another separate blog post because she deserves it.
Cesar Milan's book has completely captured my attention and I pick it up whenever I have a spare moment. I've had my pup for a year now and I'm not making the progress I'd like to see so I went to books for help, plus I love the show. Amazing read thus far and not in just training and understanding my dog, but truly an inspirational story. Can't wait to finish it in the next few days.
I have a lot of ideas storming in my head of things I want to cover about the book world in this blog and while I have a list of ideas, I would love to hear yours as well. One thing I need to approach soon is handling the onslaught of information and how to organize it. What do you do?
Book recommendations I found for the week that I keep in the file for the future are:
Johannes Cabal the Necromancer by Johnathan L. Howard
Epilogue: A Memoir by Anne Roiphe
Heard anything good?
