Let me first say, what a great group! Just being around creatives who get together just for the sake of making books was a great feeling. This Monday we made a book using old gift cards and ribbon for the spine. It’s a great little pocket book and has given me lots of ideas for a book of mini illustrations.
I also learned that Sacramento Magazine named Michaels as it's best art store!?! What is wrong with this city? Well, Art Ellis, is where you should be going for all your fine art supplies. The owner is a wonderful woman by the name of Sharon who loves books more than me and is quite knowledgeable on all things.
I’ve also been spending copious amounts of time researching different wedding invitation techniques. Sorting through all the information is overwhelming, but exciting. Part of today I spent visiting paper shops, hand lettering initials of the couple, drawing outlines of invites, etc. I even found an amazing little antique shop along the way that I had to use extreme will power not to buy anything. As always, cool type was to be found:
The rest of the day I used finishing up the promotional flier that I mentioned earlier. It’s the first thing I’ve created for a client in over a year. There were a lot of mixed emotions as I went through the simple process of creating the flier. I feel it’s a little rough, but the turnaround for the project was fairly quick so I had no time for old jitters. It was interesting to see how the old anxiety played out while I was working. However, it was a good icebreaker back into the game. I feel good.
EDIT: I just realized I need to stop using my iPhone as a camera. While, it does just fine in a jiffy, I bought a digital camera for a reason. Damn you, convenient phone.
