Chronicle Books offers a fellowship every 6 months to recently graduated designers, and after extensive research on their company I knew I had found a place that had such a rare love of books I had to learn from them. I went to work revamping every project in my portfolio and adding new projects that focus on the book industry. Sadly, my home was burglarized three weeks before the deadline, which left me with no working files of all new projects. It also meant I would be passed the graduation requirement of 24 months when their next deadline came up in November. So with support from friends and family I wrote a letter to studio manager, Jenna Cushner, asking (pleading for mercy) if I would be able to apply in November.
Very rarely are we given second chances when it comes to impressing our dream employer with a totally super awesome portfolio. News came yesterday, that I would indeed be able to apply next session. After I stopped crying with tears of joy, I had an entirely new focus. The ideas keep flowing so hard that I have to leave myself voice memos throughout the night because I can't sleep.
So on the heels of good news, I went to the city to celebrate with friends and more importantly get a free garden. San Francisco apparently isn't a good place for roof gardens, but it's my benefit. Never fear though, type was still on my mind. Here are some photos of cool type I found walking about the town.

Congrats, Jen! I'm looking forward to seeing your designs. I love fonts - especially drawing them. Maybe someday we can chat it up about typography. I'm sorry to hear about your house but happy to hear about someone with strong resolve and passion to keep moving forward. You inspire. Later gator.
